McKendree UMC ladies entertain at nursing home
Best wishes for a happy and safe Fourth of July holiday go out to all Hartselle Enquirer readers.
Following are some tips on how to keep your pets safe during the holiday:
• Never leave alcoholic drinks unattended. They have the potential to poison your pets and if ingested, your pet could become intoxicated and weak, severely depressed or could go into a coma and die from respiratory failure.
• Always keep matches and lighter fluid out of reach of your pets. Certain types of matches contain chlorates and could potentially damage blood cells and result in difficult breathing or kidney failure, Lighter fluid can be irritating to skin and if ingested can produce gastrointestinal irritation and harm the nervous system. If inhaled, it could cause pneumonia or other breathing problems.
• Keep citronella candles, insect coils and oil products out of reach of pets. If ingested, they can cause stomach irritation and harm the nervous system. If inhaled, oils could cause pneumonia.
• Never use fireworks around your pets. Exposure to lit fireworks can result in severe burns or trauma to the face and paws of curious pets. Even unused fireworks can pose a danger since many of them contain toxic substances, including potassium nitrate, arsenic and other heavy metals. Loud fireworks are no fun for your pets so please resist the urge to take them to fireworks shows on the Fourth of July.
