Ten Morgan County athletes to compete in all-star games
Ten outstanding athletes from high schools in Hartselle, Decatur and Morgan County school systems have been chosen to participate in North-South All-Star Games in Montgomery next week. In addition, two of the county’s head coaches will serve on north team coaching staffs.
North-South all-stars will compete in girls softball, boys baseball, girls volleyball, girls and boys basketball and soccer and football. The athletes will be lodged at Auburn University at Montgomery and will compete at five different venues beginning Monday, July 11, and continuing through Thursday, July 14.
Olivia Golden, a senior member of Hartselle High’s softball team, will play at shortstop for the North Softball All-Stars. A two-year starter, she slugged eight homers and stole 34 bases in 2010 to lead her team in both categories.
The all-star softball doubleheader will be played at Montgomery’s Lagoon Park Softball Complex Monday, July 11, at 6 and 8 p.m.
Representing Hartselle High on the North–South All-Star Soccer Team will be Katelyn Hill, a 5’9” two-year starter and her team’s leading blocker. Hartselle High head volleyball coach Tanya Lybarger will help coach the North All-Stars.
The North-South volleyball game will be played at Faulkner University on Tuesday, June 12, at 4 p.m.
Two members of Hartselle High School’s 2010 football team are members of the North All-Stars. They are Jared Appleton, a 6’6”, 330-lb. offensive tackle who has signed a scholarship to play for UNA, and Will Lang, a 6’ 0”, 185-lb. all-state quarterback.
The North-South football game is scheduled to be played in Cramton Bowl in Montgomery Thursday, July 14, at 7 p.m.
Danville High head girl’s basketball coach Paul Wilson will help coach the North team in the North-South Girls Basketball Game at the Alabama State University Acadome on Wednesday,
July 13, at 6 p.m. West Morgan High star guard Hayden Hamby will play for the team he is helping coach.
A member of the Decatur Red Raiders basketball team is a North all-star. He is 6’3” forward Darius Nelson. He and his teammates will challenge the South all-stars in an 8 p.m. game at the Acadome.
Four soccer players from Decatur will play for North teams in the North-South soccer games at the Emory Folmer YMCA Soccer Complex on Tuesday, July 12. Mallory Popich and Mallory Schmidt will represent Decatur High on the North girls team and Victor Hernandez and Mark Pensa will play for the North boys team. The girls game will be played at 5 p.m. and the boys game at 7 p.m.
