Duane Leon ‘Steve’ Nelson
Funeral for Duane Leon “Steve” Nelson, 67, of Hartselle was Sunday, July 10, at 1:30 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Rusty Hodges and Milan Dekich officiating.
Burial was in Cook Cemetery.
Mr. Nelson died Sunday, July 3, 2011, at Hartselle Medical Center. He was born April 4, 1944, in Ohio, to Leon Nelson and Evelyn Blanche Presley Nelson. He lived most of his life in Cole Spring and graduated from Falkville High School. He owned and operated Nelson Construction and had previously owned and operated Nelson Iron and Metal and was a partner in N&W Metals. He was a loving husband, father and friend, enjoyed helping others and was always thoughtful and kind to everyone. He loved working and spending time with his family and friends. He was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Nelson Latham.
He is survived by his wife, Melba Veal Nelson; two daughters, Connie Puckett and husband Troy of Falkville and Kelly Holmes of Eva; a stepson, Steve Mote of Huntsville; a stepdaughter, Cynthia Blankenship of Somerville; two special brothers, Bill R. Nelson and wife Donna of Somerville and John Nelson and wife Martha of Falkville; a special uncle, Ralph Nelson whom he considered a third brother; five grandchildren, Blake, Jarred, Hannah, Tyler and Katie; three stepgrandchildren, Brianna, Madelyn and Ella; and a great-grandchild, Colton Cameron.
Pallbearers were John Cagle, Nathan Davis, Jerry Smith, Jared Puckett, Tyler Childers and Blake Puckett.
