Local student graduates from Eckerd College

Eckerd College is pleased to announce the graduation of Brittney Michelle Carnell, daughter of John and Carolyn Carnell of Hartselle and an alumnus of Hartselle High School.

One of 532 Eckerd College graduates, she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in international relations and global affairs and minors in anthropology and French during commencement ceremonies in St. Petersburg, Fla., May 22.

Carnell was a recipient of an Eckerd College Presidential Scholarship tuition award. While at Eckerd, she traveled abroad to study in Peru and Egypt and to volunteer in Costa Rica.

She was a Triton cheerleader for three years, serving as captain during her junior and senior years. She was a volunteer with Big Cat Rescue and was a member of Eckerd’s Rock Climbing and Outdoor Adventure Club. Brittney was a photographer for the Office of Campus Activities and was a work-study administrative assistant in the Office of Student Affairs.

Following graduation, she plans to serve in the Peace Corps and attend graduate school.
