SNAP yard sale underway
A big yard sale fundraiser for the John Mark Stallings Special Needs Accessible Playground (SNAP) got off to a brisk start on a parking lot adjoining Sparkman Civic Center earlier today in spite of a Thursday evening thunderstorm and the threat of more rain.
“We had people waiting and ready to buy when we started setting up for the sale Thursday afternoon,” said Jack Templeton, project coordinator. “Then the rain came and we had to begin covering up stuff. That prevented us from sorting through a lot of the merchandise and getting it displayed. “
“We had two large shipping containers filled with donations when we started and stuff is still coming in. We expect a truckload from Decatur this afternoon,” he added.
About 50 people were busy picking through bags and boxes of donated items hunting for bargains an hour after the 6 a.m. sale opening. The sale will continue until 5 p.m. Friday and from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.
