Hartselle woman charged with burglary
A Hartselle woman has been charged with burglarizing a Decatur residence after a witness allegedly saw the suspect inside the home Saturday.
Morgan County Central Dispatch received a call from a local resident reporting a burglary in progress. Decatur Police said in a press release that the caller was tending to a residence at 1730 Pennylane SE while the homeowner was out of town.
Upon entry, the witness observed an unknown white female in the residence, who quickly fled through a broken window.
The police report indicated that several items had been taken from the residence.
The witness pursued the suspect and police tracked her to a residence in the 2200 block of 12th Street SE. Items stolen from the burglarized residence were also recovered at the suspect’s residence.
Police identified the suspect as Tracey Campbell, 26, of 102 Prospect Drive in Hartselle. She was transported to the Decatur Police Department for questioning, where she was charged with third-degree burglary.
Campbell was booked in the Decatur City Jail without incident and was awaiting transfer to the Morgan County Jail under a $2,500 bond.
