Nail finishes seventh in state women’s championship
Hartselle’s Heather Nail finished seventh in the 21st Alabama Women’s Stroke Play Championship at Grayson Valley Country Club in Trussville.
The Hartselle High School athlete finished with a 238 in the three-round tournament.
She was sixth after posting a 78 the first day, which was just four strokes off of the lead.
She was tied for seventh with an 81 on the second day for 12 strokes back and earn a spot in the championship flight. She then had a 79 on the final day.
Haley Lawrence of Prattville, who is also a member of Troy University’s women’s golf team, took home the championship after rounds of 74-73-74 for a score of 221. She defeated three-time champion Kathy Hartwiger, who improved every day with rounds of 75-74-73 for a total of 222, by one shot.
