Business park work to start in September
The startup of infrastructure construction work at the Morgan Center Business Park in Hartselle is expected to begin in September, pending approval of a storm water permit from the Alabama Department of Environmental Management, according to Jeremy Nails, chairman of the Morgan County Industrial Park and Economic Development Cooperative District.
Off-site construction is already in progress under another contract to extend sewer service from The Hartselle-Morgan County Industrial Park on Thompson Road to Business Park property fronting on Byrd Road and I-65. This work is being done by Reed Contracting Co. of Huntsville at a cost of $1.072 million.
“Weather permitting, we expect all of the infrastructure to be in place by June/July of 2012,” Nails said. “While the development process has been slow to this point, we’re excited about having the infrastructure under contract and look forward to being able to offer the park as a prime location for high-end technology companies.”
Infrastructure work at the park is under contract to Waters Brothers Contractors at a cost of $2.285 million.
The project involves the relocation of Byrd Road from park property to the road’s intersection with Thompson Road, a distance of about 400 feet. The old road will be replaced with a new three-lane road complete with curb and gutter. A park entrance will consist of signage, a water feature, fencing and landscaping. Underground utilities will be installed on-site, making the park shovel-ready for construction.
