Shelter competes in ASPCA Challenge
Decatur Animal Services is holding an adoption drive to not only help more animals find homes, but to possibly win money from the ASPCA.
The shelter is participating in the annual ASPCA Challenge. It is the only shelter in Alabama in the event.
Susie Burgess, a volunteer from Hartselle, said the competition is based on the number of adoptions that occur between August and October.
“The shelter that sees the most increase in adoptions will receive a grand prize of $25,000,” Burgess said.
Because of that, the shelter is having a kickoff party Saturday at Decatur’s Wilson-Morgan Park. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“We’re hoping to have a big crowd out there Saturday, and we hope to get as many animals adopted as possible,” Burgess said.
