She taught school at the former Morgan County Training School and Hartselle Junior High School for nearly 40 years and remained active in various church and community affairs well beyond her retirement.
She is survived by a daughter, Dr. Harriette Stevens and husband Myles Jr. of San Francisco, Calif.; two sons, Isaac “Bud” Stallworth Jr. and wife Theresa of Lawrence, Kan., and Lavoisier “Jerry” Stallworth and wife Krishna of Oakland, Calif.; three sisters, Ansola Garner, Bessie Hinds and Mary Alice Fawlkes; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Stallworth was the oldest daughter of 10 children and was raised on a farm where she had to help with chores such as drawing water from the well, milking cows and helping prepare breakfast. Then she walked several miles to school. Form the example of her parents she learned the value of hard work.
She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at a young age and for over 60 yeas was an active member of First Missionary Baptist Church in Hartselle. One of her responsibilities was to mentor young women to be the best they could be.
Her parents wanted Eva to have a higher education so they sent her to live with relatives in Bessemer where she attended advanced middle school. Then she moved to Mobile to live with the principal and attend Mobile County Training High School. She attended Alabama A&M University where she graduated in 1944 with a B.S. degree in home economics. After she graduated, she was offered a teaching job at the former Morgan County Training School in Hartselle.
In 1946 she met and married Isaac Frank Stallworth who was principal at MCTS. From this union their four children were born and raised. Mr. Stallworth passed away in 1977 and their daughter Eunice in 2009.
Mrs. Stallworth taught grades six through eight, first at MCTS and then social studies at Hartselle Junior High School. She also taught home economics and served as a guidance counselor at MCTS. After her retirement, she kept busy participating in various civic organizations and serving on boards with the Red Cross, Mental Health Association and Department of Pensions and Security. She delivered Meals on Wheels and participated in voter registration drives. She continued to serve the elderly in Lawrence, Kan. where she helped to prepare meals at the Senior Center. She also continued her love of arts and crafts by learning how to paint and arrange flowers when she stayed in San Francisco. She enjoyed visiting her children and grandchildren across the United States and she even had the opportunity to travel to Europe.
She was known as a sports enthusiast, a mother to many, a “coach from the bleachers” and a shoulder to cry on. And most of all, a friend to all.
Left to carry on her legacy are her daughter, Dr. Harriette S. Stevens and husband Myles Jr. of San Francisco; two sons,
