Beware of latest contest scam phone calls
One of the latest scams going around is someone calling to congratulate you on winning a cash prize. They want you to send them several thousand dollars in order to get the so called prize they said that you have won. A person cannot even win a prize in a contest if they have not entered and you never pay for a prize. The Sheriffs Department in Cullman has eight other calls from people that said they have gotten calls from these scam artists. The best thing for a person to do is hang up at once.
I have gotten two of these scam calls within the past week. I hang up as soon as the person states congratulations. If you were to get one of these calls hang up at once and call the sheriff’s office.
Another scam is someone calling and wanting you to update your credit card. I have no credit cards and this one person (automated voice mail of course) has called at least five times and I always hang up on them. My name is on the no call list; however, they still call.
