4-H begins enrolling members
The Morgan County Extension office has announced it is beginning to register students of ages 9-19 for 4-H club membership during the 2011-2012 school year.
Programs and projects being offered include the following: robotics, science engineering and technology, home interior decorating, $15 challenge—learn to shop on a budget and look good, public speaking, woodworking, cooking, gardening, forestry and wildlife and shooting sports

Clark re-elected to ACCA board
Morgan County Commissioner Jeff Clark was re-elected to the board of directors of the Association of County Commissions of Alabama, a statewide association representing Alabama’s county governments.
“We are excited about Jeff’s leadership abilities and his dedication to strengthening county government in Alabama, and we believe he is an invaluable member of the Association’s Board of Directors,” said ACCA President and Etowah County Commissioner Tim Choate. “County government in Alabama is undergoing tremendous changes, and our new board members must provide the leadership necessary to help our counties face these changes on the local level.”
Clark represents ACCA’s District 4, which includes Blount, Cullman, Lawrence, Morgan and St. Clair counties.
Long, Vest complete 50 hours of training
Morgan County Commissioners Ray Long and Randy Vest recently joined an elite group of county officials by completing 50 hours of training from the Alabama Local Government Training Institute on the basic responsibilities of the county commission.
They were honored for this accomplishment during an Awards Ceremony on Thursday, Aug. 18, during the Association of County Commissions of Alabama’s 83rd Annual Convention.
The program emphasizes budgeting, personnel matters, planning, and road and bridge responsibilities. This unique educational program began in 1994 as a mandatory program for first-time commissioners by act of the Alabama Legislature.
Stisher to serve on Legislative Committee
Morgan County Commissioner Don Stisher has been re-elected to serve as a member of the Association of County Commissions of Alabama’s Legislative Committee.
The Association’s Legislative Committee is composed of a chairman, the Association’s past presidents still serving in county government and a representative from each of ACCA’s 12 districts. The Legislative Committee works in concert with six steering committees to formulate the Association’s legislative agenda for the upcoming year.
Stisher represents ACCA’s District District 4, which includes Blount, Cullman, Lawrence, Morgan and St. Clair counties.
