School system passes budget
The Hartselle Board of Education passed a revised $28.6 million budget excluding $39.5 million in capital projects, almost all of which will be used for the construction of the new high school.
School chief financial officer Sarita Tapscott said she revised the budget to include $17.9 million in local revenues that is coming from the City of Hartselle’s bond issue for the new school. That money was originally left out of the revenues.
However, Tapscott said any of the changes she made to the proposed budget didn’t significantly affect the school system’s ending fund balance for Sept. 30, 2012.
“We gained a some revenue in federal funding and lost some in state funding,” Tapscott said. “So I had to reduce some expenses and raise it in other areas based on the revised funding levels.”
