Oak Ridge UMC plans 9/11 anniversary program
Oak Ridge United Methodist Church will host a special program to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attack on New York City and Washington D.C. and honor local rapid responders on Sun., Sept. 11, beginning at 11 a.m.
The Oak Ridge Volunteer Fire Department will be single out for special recognition during the 11 a.m. service.
Barbecue plates, consisting of a barbecue pork sandwich, baked beans, cole slaw, banana pudding and drink, will be sold for $6 each and served in the church basement, beginning at noon. All of the profit will be used to benefit the fire department.
Patriotic music will be presented by the Hartselle High School Chorus and the Danville High School band at 1:30 p.m. In addition, a weeping willow tree will be planted on the church grounds in honor of first responders. The fire department will also display their fire trucks and equipment for viewing across the road in front of the church.
