Battered Blue Devils fall to Tanner
TANNER – An injury-riddled Falkville Blue Devil team found the Tanner Rattlers as deadly as their namesake on Friday night as they dropped their second game in a row and their first regional contest 56-0.
The Blue Devils are now 0-2 overall and 0-1 in their region. Tanner jumped to 2-0, 1-0.
Falkville, with a 23-player roster, had five players limp out of the game with injures in their home opener against Sumiton Christian. In addition, two starters didn’t suit up for the game because of injuries.
The Rattlers dominated the Blue Devils with their strength and speed. They racked up 505 yards on offense while holding Falkville to just 108 yards of total offense.
The Rattlers led 28-0 at the end of the first quarter on the strength of touchdown runs of 23, 42 and 4 yards and a 65-yard pass play. They added two touchdowns in the second quarter on runs of 43 and 16 yards and carried a 42-0 advantage into the dressing room at halftime.
Two third quarter scores, on 26 and 3-yard runs, pushed the final score to 56-0.
One of the few bright spots in Falkville’s attack was its passing game. Tyler Anders competed 11 of his 29 throws for 81 yards, but he threw two interceptions.
The Blue Devils will host Cleveland in another region game Friday night with a 7 p.m. kickoff.
