County fall cleanup nears
The week of Sept. 26-Oct. 1 is an important week to keep in mind if you have old discarded appliances, household furnishings and other rubbish that you want to dispose of free of charge.
Morgan County residents will be able to do some serious cleaning during the annual Morgan County Fall Cleanup thanks to the coordinated efforts of Morgan County Commissioners and Morgan County Adopt-A-Mile volunteers
The Decatur-Morgan County Landfill at Trinity will accept household rubbish free of charge from 6 a.m.-3:30 p.m. on weekdays and 7-11 a.m. on Saturday.
Non-acceptable items include shingles, tires, household garbage, lumber or hazardous chemicals.
From Sept. 26-30, district shops 2, 3, 4 will receive rubbish from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Oct. 1, from 7-11 a.m. District 1 will received disposable items on Saturday only from 7-11 a.m. Personnel will be available to assist those needing help to unload their vehicles.
At the same time Adopt-A-Mile volunteers will be concentrating their efforts to pick up any litter on road rights-of-way and other public grounds. They also welcome other interested property owners to join them in picking up litter on roadways not assigned to an adopt-A-Mile volunteer.

Band boosters raising money for uniforms
The Hartselle Band Boosters is currently conducting two fundraisers to help purchase new uniforms.
Dish It Out cookbooks are on sale for $17. The cookbooks are in a colorful 3 ring binder with over 400 recipes submitted by band students, families, and band supporters.
These will be on sale the month of September, at Hartselle Depot Days Sept. 17, at the Southern Hospitality Marching Festival on Oct. 1 at JP Cain Stadium and at all varsity home football games. The boosters have worked for over a year to get this cookbook published and we are very excited to have it on sale.
Boosters will also have drawing to for an opportunity to win $250 cash at the last home game of the season. Purchase a ticket at the boosters table for $5 for an opportunity to compete in the “Band Pass Through.” This will involve five contestants passing a football through a target from ascending distances until a $250 winner is determined.
All winners must be present at the last home game, Hartselle vs. Austin, on Thursday, Oct. 27, to test your skills.

Wild game cook-off set for Oct. 4
The Morgan County Chapter of the Alabama Wildlife Federation will have its 16th annual Wild Game Cook-off on Tuesday, Oct. 4, at Ingalls Harbor.
The competition contains three divisions – fish, fowl and game. Pre-registration is required by Oct. 3.
Along with the cook-off, the event also offers samples from the competing teams, music, silent auction, and door prizes for children and adults. Gate opens at 5:30 p.m.
Tickets are $35 per couple/person and children under 16 years old are admitted free. The ticket price includes a one-year membership in the Alabama wildlife Federation, a subscription to the Alabama Wildlife magazine and all of the free samples from those competing at the cook-off. All proceeds from the event will benefit AWF.
