Saturday festival to climax Depot Days
Hartselle’s 31st annual Depot Days will climax on Saturday with an all-day festival in the central business district featuring food and merchandise vendors, live stage entertainment, antique car and tractor show, 5K run and children’s rides and games.
The event will kick off at 7 a.m. at Sparkman Civic Center with registration for the 5K run and will continue until 5 p.m. Early activities will include a children’s art show, car, truck and bike show, tractor show and stage entertainment.
“Everything is set to go and we anticipate thousands of visitors filling the streets all day long,” said Susan Hines, president of Hartselle Area Chamber of Commerce. “We have a diverse and exciting lineup of events planned and there should be plenty of fun and excitement for everyone.”
Visitors are reminded that the entire downtown business district will be blocked off during the day to make room for vendors and other activities. The main arteries open for through traffic will be Chestnut Street east and west and U.S. 31 north and south. Off-street parking lots south of Main Street will be used for festival events.
Vendor seeks funds for baby’s adoption
A diverse group of merchandise vendors will be hawking sales for just about anything you can imagine on Saturday.
However, one couple will be selling donated items to raise money for the adoption of a baby from China.
Jeremy and Sarah Farley of Trinity are making plans to travel to China in the near future to bring home their first child and need help to the tune of $28,000 to finance the adoption and long trip. To that end they have been selling T-shirts since February and hope to add to their “baby fund” with a booth named “Journey for Grace” on Saturday. Their offerings will include donated pottery, jewelry, paintings and baby items.
