Residents who own iPads or other e-reader devices may be able to download books for free thanks to a new program at the Hartselle Public Library.
Library to offer free temporary downloads of books
If you have a library card at the William Bradford Huie Library and an iPad or a Kindle, then you may be able to check out books digitally soon.
The Hartselle Public Library is planning to enroll in Camelia Net Consortium, which will allow patrons the opportunity to download digital copies of books on their e-readers.
The program, which will cost $3,000, is being paid for by a community service grant from State Rep. Ed Henry, R-Hartselle.
At its Sept. 27 meeting, the Hartselle City Council approved the grant and the enrollment application pending approval from City Attorney Larry Madison.
Mayor Dwight Tankersley and librarian Emily Love accepted the grant check on Tuesday.
“I think this is great for residents in Hartselle,” Tankersley said. “This gives you the opportunity to check books out of the library without having to worry about late fees. All you have to do is to download it to your e-reader and you’ll have access to it.”
City officials are unsure when the service will be available at the library, but they anticipate it will happen soon.
