Hartselle woman hit by car dies in hospital

Bonny Hardiman Salomon, 54, of Hartselle was fatally injured Wednesday when she was struck by a car while crossing a traffic lane in the parking lot at Wayne Farms at 254 Ipsco St. in Decatur.

She was airlifted by a MedFlight helicopter and taken to Huntsville Hospital, suffering from massive head injuries.  She died the following day.

The accident occurred at approximately 7:15 a.m. as the victim was on her way to work. She was a 17-year Wayne Farms employee and a union representative.

She was hit by a 2002 Buick Century, which was moving east in a traffic lane. Driver of the car was a fellow employee, Catina Lynn Johnson, 29, of Decatur.

Ms. Johnson was facing the sun at the time and said she didn’t see Ms. Salomon crossing in front of her car, according to Decatur police investigators. No charges were placed against her.

Funeral for Salomon will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Ridouts Brown Service Chapel in Decatur. Interment will follow at Roselawn Cemetery.
