Somerville Church of God to host Kid’s Fun Day

I hope everyone had a great week. The days are getting shorter, which means winter is just around the corner. I hope all of the kids, young and old alike, had a great Halloween.

Somerville Assembly had a great fun night on Saturday. They hosted lots of activities for the kids including face painting, bobbing for apples and a hayride. Everyone was chilled to the bone when we arrived back at the church after the hayride. We were thankful that those who stayed behind met us with hot chocolate.

The fun night at Somerville Baptist Church was also a big success. Everyone who attended enjoyed lots of games, food and fun.

A fun day for kids will be held at Somerville Church of God on Sat., Nov. 5, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Pastor Michael Gunter and members of the church invite everyone to attend.

Remember the benefit for Dennis “Dinky” Free at the Soggy Bottom Music Barn in Florette on Sat., Nov. 5, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Sympathy is extended to the family and friends of Paul Shaddix who passed away on Saturday. Many of you will know his three sons. Billy and Jim Shaddix drive ambulances for County EMS and Chris Shaddix is also his son.

A big hello goes out to Frank and Martha Gravatt, Colleen Moore, Gertrude Wray, W.D. Wray and Wanda Taylor.

Robert and Norma Dempsey enjoyed visiting with their son D.J in Birmingham last weekend. D.J. lives in New York City but is currently on tour with an acting group. The group performed in Birmingham over the weekend.

I was glad to hear from Draton Fowler on Sunday. He used to live in the Florette community and wrote the “Florette News” for the Hartselle Enquirer. He and his wife Sara and daughter Amber now live in Illinois. He said to tell all of his friends hello.

Thanks to J.J. Daugette and Jack Kemp for driving the trucks for the hayride at Somerville Assembly on Saturday.

Somerville UMC will host a benefit gospel concert on Sat., Nov. 5, at 6:30 p.m. In His Image will be guest singers. An offering will be taken to benefit the Frye family that is adopting a child. Everyone is invited to attend.

On Friday I had the privilege of meeting some dedicated Somerville News readers. I would like to send out a big hello and thank you to Faye Anders, Nell Harrison, Elisie Kipple Culbreath and Mary Kipple. I hope you all have a great week.

Community Baptist Church will conduct homecoming services on Sun., Nov. 6. The church is located in the Cotaco community on Highway 36. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Vickey Daugette and Gary Rice enjoyed having lunch at Ryan’s on Saturday.

Congratulations go out to Ronnie and Marie Bullard on the birth of a beautiful granddaughter. Bro. Ronnie is pastor of Pines Baptist Church.

Jake and Angie Holmes and children enjoyed spending a few days in Panama City last week.

It was good to see Gene Blevins out and about last weekend. He has been a little under the weather. Also Vernon White is able to get out after recent heart surgery.

Call me with your news items. Have a blessed and safe week.
