David Edward Townsend

A memorial service for David Edward Townsend, 80, of Hartselle will be Tues., Nov. 8, at 2 p.m. at Cedar Creek Freewill Baptist Church with Pee Wee Murphy and Larry McElroy officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.

Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery.

Mr. Townsend died Sat., Nov. 5, 2011, at Summerford Nursing Home. He was born Dec. 6, 1930, in Morgan County to Manson Townsend and Berta Townsend.

He graduated from Falkville High School and earned B.S. and Master’s degrees from Jacksonville State University. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and taught school in Morgan County for 30 years. He was an expert fisherman.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, John Townsend of Cullman.

He is survived by his wife, Vertie Depreast Townsend of Hartselle; a son, Whit Townsend and wife Suzanne of Hartselle; and a sister, Ruth Moore of Hartselle.
