Kiwanis pancake day sees big success

Hartselle High School’s cafeteria was filled with the smell of pancakes, syrup and sausage Saturday morning not for school, but for the annual Hartselle Kiwanis Club Pancake Day.
Kiwanians woke up early Saturday morning and were cooking flapjacks by 4:30 a.m. to get ready for the crowd that began filing from 6 to 11 a.m.
Club president Jon Anderson said the club served more than 650 during the morning.
“We had another great day out here today,” Anderson said. “This is really our only big fundraiser throughout the year. It helps us fund our projects throughout the year.”
The Kiwanis Club sponsors a number of charities and organizations that deal with children. The club sponsors organizations such as Head Start, Boy Scout Troop #336, Reading Is Fundamental and the Hartselle High Key Club.
It also sponsors major events such as an Easter Egg Hunt and the city’s Christmas Parade, which is scheduled for Dec. 1.
The club meets the first and third Thursdays each month at Sedona. Anderson said dues are $25 a month.
