Man accused of tractor theft off Alabama 157

A Vinemont man is in jail following a tractor theft in western Morgan County last week.

On Nov. 2 at 7:40 p.m., deputies responded to a crime in progress at a residence in the 3400 block of Alabama 157. The suspects allegedly loaded a 1965 Massey-Ferguson farm tractor onto a trailer and left the scene.

The suspects tried to hide in a wooded area off Hardin Road. One fled on foot and the other attempted to flee in their vehicle with the utility trailer. The driver, 41-year-old Jeffrey Blake Cruce of Vinemont, was charged with theft of property first degree. His bond is $5,000.

The other suspect has not been arrested at this time. The tractor was recovered and the getaway vehicle and utility trailer were confiscated as evidence.
