Marsh earns ASWA honorable mention

Hartselle senior kicker Gavin Marsh was a finalist for the Alabama Sports Writers Association special teams player of the week following his performance in a 22-21 win over Pinson Valley.

Marsh was 2-for-3 on field goals including the game-winning 19-yard kick with four seconds left in the game. He also made a 42-yard field goal and was 2-for-2 on extra points.

Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa’s Melvin Gueler edged Marsh for this week’s ASWA Special Teams Player of the Week. Gueler hit a 44-yard field goal with five seconds left to give the Patriots a 17-14 win at Vestavia Hills and send Hillcrest into the third round of the playoffs for the first time since 2003.
