Property approved for District 3 workshop
Morgan County District 3 will be relocating to a new workshop and office building in the Falkville Industrial Park next month.
The Morgan County Commission voted unanimously to purchase a 14,400 sq. ft. metal and brick building on a one and one-half acre lot for that purpose at a regular meeting on Tuesday morning. The purchase price is $325,000. The Buster Road property, which is owned by BB&B Bank, is vacant but previously was occupied by Valley Trailer Products.
“We’re still in the negotiations stage but I expect to have keys to the property later this week,” said District 3 Commissioner Don Stisher. “We should be able to move from our existing shop sometime in February.
He said only minor alterations will be needed to make the building ideally suited for his district’s needs. Its footprint is pretty much a duplicate of the new building design we came up with last year. We knew about the building then but the price was more than what we were willing to pay.”
“Now we’re going to be able to relocate at a considerable savings,” he pointed out. The estimated cost of a new building at our present location was $760,000 and we were still going to have to undergo the expense of blasting and filling a slope on the property to have enough room for the building.”
The new building has three offices, a three-bay work area, bathrooms, break area, storage space and a paved parking lot.
The present location will continue to serve as a voting center for the 2012 elections as well as provide storage for bulk maintenance supplies and drainage pipe.
