Residents asked to submit questions for forum
Hartselle voters will have the opportunity to meet candidates and listen to them answer questions at a candidate forum Tues., Aug. 7, at Sparkman Civic Center.
Sponsored by Hartselle Area Chamber of Commerce, the event will begin at 6 p.m. with a meet and greet, followed by the forum at 7 p.m.
Jeremy Nails, executive director of the Morgan County Economic Development Association, will serve as moderator.
Candidates for mayor, city council and school board have been invited to participate. They will have the opportunity to meet voters and distribute campaign literature during the meet and greet.
During the forum they will be sequestered and unable to hear the candidates before them answer questions. They will be called to the podium one at a time, introduced by the moderator and allowed to make a brief statement about their candidacy before answering a question.
Candidates for mayor, council and school board will appear on stage in that order.
“Most of the candidates have already committed to participate,” said Susan Hines, chamber president. “This is a wonderful opportunity for them to meet voters and express their views on a question of important to the community. At the same time, it give voters a chance to see and hear the candidates speak in public.”
