DHS, FHS get AVCA awards
Danville and Falkville’s varsity volleyball programs won national awards for academics.
The two programs received the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award for the 2011-2012 academic year.
On Danville’s team, two players, Jada Callahan (senior, second team Coaches All-State) and Sloan Lindsey (sophomore), carried a 4.0 average, while Keri Callahan (senior, second team Coaches All-State) had a 4.07 GPA because of Advanced Placement (AP) classes. Megan Luker (junior) and Charlee Anderson (freshman) both had 3.92 averages, while Jessica Hogan (senior) and Shelby Beck (junior) each carried a 3.85.
In all, Danville had 10 players with 3.5 averages or higher. Other team members were Sydni Shelton (freshman, 3.7), Kelsey Alvis (junior, 3.61), Haley Rae Garnett (senior, 3.55), Lindsey Vinzant (senior, 3.45), Hannah McClung (senior, 3.31), Kellee Stiles (freshman,), Jesse Oliver (freshman, 3.0) and Kira Hopper (freshman).
