Orr to be inducted into ASHOF Saturday
BIRMINGHAM – The former Auburn University, Team USA, and Olympic basketball player, Vickie Orr, will be one of eight to be inducted into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame on Saturday, May 18, 2013.
A native of Hartselle, Orr played collegiate basketball at Auburn University, where she won a number of accolades. She was a Kodak All-American three consecutive years (1987-1989) and named SEC Player of the Year (1988).
She currently rakes second in Auburn scoring with 2,035 points, and is one of only two Auburn players to score over 2,000 points and have 1,000 rebounds. She led the Lady Tigers to two straight NCAA Championship games and was MVP of the 1987 SEC Tournament and the 1989 NCAA Mid-East Regional.
She was named to the All-Final Four team in 1989. She won two Gold Medals in 1990 as part of two different teams, the Goodwill team and the USA Team that played in the World Championships. She was also a member of the U.S. Olympic Team that won bronze in 1992. She played professionally in Italy from 1990-1992.
