Woman dies in crash

A Hartselle woman was killed in a one-vehicle wreck on Alabama 36 near Kyle Road Thursday around 6 p.m.
Melissa Ann Johnson, 45, of East Byrd Road in Hartselle was driving a 1997 Ford Ranger without wearing a seatbelt when the vehicle went off the road, according to Hartselle Police spokesman Lt. Justin Barley.
Witnesses told Hartselle Police that the victim appeared to be texting or using some sort of electronic device when the accident occurred. Johnson died on the scene. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
Johnson’s visitation will be at Hartselle Heritage Funeral Home Sun., May 26 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Graveside services will follow at 2 p.m. at Johnson Chapel Cemetery with Rev. Earl Holt officiating.
Johnson was born March 30, 1968 to James Paul Johnson and Diane Kellogg Johnson of Hartselle.
She is survived by her mother, Aunt Sara Hughes and cousin Junior Hughes, both of Hartselle; three aunts, Martha, Sarah Jo and Edie; and two uncles, Carl Kellogg and Lee Kellogg.
