The Happy Heart Market is a recent addition to Hartselle’s growing food scene.
Kim Crow Prince opened the Happy Heart Market, her unique shop featuring local and organic goods, April 3 on Hwy 31 in Hartselle.
This specialty market offers fresh produce, flowers, grains, cheeses, eggs and meats, often from growers around Morgan County.
Many products at the Happy Heart are part of a gluten-free or vegetarian diet that can be hard to find outside of bigger cities with dedicated markets and stores.
Prince’s shop boasts local breads, jams and jellies; the only certified organic milk producer in the state of Alabama; unique works from many local artists; and even some produce from her own organic farm.
Prince wanted to open the Happy Heart Market to bring healthy foods to Hartselle.
“It’s all about healthy foods,” Prince said. “I’m not into fad diets. I just want to serve my community and have a little bit for everyone.”
Before opening, Prince did a lot of research on farmers, bakers and producers throughout the state, ensuring she would able to sell high quality goods. Her inspiration came from a similar shop she found years before.
“Fifteen years ago, I came across a quaint local market while on a trip to Tennessee,” Prince said. “I thought then it would be nice to have one of my own, and here we are.”
The Happy Heart Market plans to start serving to-go sandwiches and salads starting today, May 29.
The Happy Heart Market is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Find out more at www.facebook.com/HappyHeartMarket.
