HHS track plans fundraisers
Hartselle High School’s track and field and cross county teams have announced plans for two summer fundraisers.
The teams will host a Mid-Night Relay at J.P. Cain Stadium on Fri., June 21, from 8 to midnight and the Firecracker 5K and 1-mile Fun Run on Sat., July 6, at 8 a.m. at Sparkman Civic Center.
Morgan County Humane Society will serve as a co-sponsor for the Mid-Night Rally, selling concessions.
HHS track coach Kenny Lopez said 50 or more of his track athletes will run laps continuously on the football field track for sponsors during the four-hour relay.
“We’re also hopeful of attracting athletes from other school sports to compete in race events,” he stated. “For example, we’d like to challenge football linemen to compete to see who is the fastest.”
Lopez said proceeds from both events would be used to purchase track and field equipment for the new Hartselle High School. In the past, the school has not been able to host its own track and field events.
