RR crossing on 36 to close for rail replacement
The Alabama Department of Transportation will close the Alabama 36 railroad crossing in downtown Hartselle on Monday to allow CSX to replace its track.
Andy Laster, ALDOT Division 2 railroad coordinator, said light traffic will be detoured to either Hickory or Chestnut streets. However, large trucks will be restricted through downtown.
“All 18-wheelers and large trucks will have to detour on Highway 36 from U.S. 31 to I-65,” Laster said. “We’re encouraging all trucks to use the Thompson Road exit.”
Laster said the railroad work will begin at safe daylight, around 6 a.m. and will continue through the day, weather permitting.
