Fairview: The Grace Place will host the Dog Days of Summer this Sunday, June 23 at 4 p.m.
A demonstration of flyball, a relay sport for dogs, will be held at the event. The event will also host an introductory obedience class. Owners can have a portrait made with their dog for a small fee. Fairview will also have a station that allows owners to make a souvenir with their dogs’ paw prints. Refreshments will be provided.
Fairview will hold a service outside at 6 p.m. Event coordinator Susie Burgess said this is an event Fairview has wanted to hold for a couple years.
“I approached Pastor Dekich about hosting an event for dogs and owners about two years ago because of an article a friend showed me about a church that had regular pet-friendly services,” Burgess said. “We felt like this was a good way to reach people who may live alone and feel uncomfortable coming to church by themselves. This way they can bring their pet and not be alone.”
This will be the first Dog Days of Summer Fairview has hosted, but they hope to make this an annual event.
“Hopefully we can do this every year,” Burgess said. “Maybe next time we can plan for a cooler time of the year, but so far the summer seems the most predictable in terms of weather.”
In case of inclement weather, the event will most likely be postponed. For more information call Fairview: The Grace Place at 256-784-5642.
