It has been a huge year for Priceville High School as they have undergone many changes. The biggest change of course was the new school that was built and opened just a month ago. Priceville also saw their sports teams surge to new heights this year with their respective teams earning some of their best years in the school’s short history. It was only fitting that Priceville would end this big year by having six students sign letters of intent to play sports at the college level in the span of six weeks. The first student athlete to sign would be Jake Chaney who signed to play baseball with Lawson State in Birmingham.

A reception was held in Chaney’s honor in the newly constructed Media Center of the new Priceville High School. Friends, family, teammates and coaches were all in attendance to celebrate Chaney’s accomplishment and wish him well in his future.

Head baseball coach Shane Hopkins spoke words of encouragement before the signing of the work ethic and positive attitude that Chaney had displayed throughout his years at Priceville and how the younger players could follow in his footsteps if they displayed similar attributes. “Jake has always been a very good leader for us,” Hopkins said. “I’m really excited for him and I think Lawson State is getting a great athlete.”

Chaney is very excited to attend Lawson and further his baseball career. “Lawson was just the perfect fit for me,” Chaney said “The academics and athletics there are just outstanding.” Chaney would also give an ode to his coach for preparing him for the next level. “The work ethic that I have learned here from Coach Hopkins I feel has really prepared me for this.”
