The Morgan County Board of Education welcomed new members, congratulated those moving into other roles within the county and gave their warmest to retirees who had an impact on students over the years at their meeting Fri., July 15.

The Board took time before they got to their planned agenda to congratulate Dennis Morris on his new role as principal of Falkville High School. Morris previously served as the assistant principal at Priceville High School, but former Principal Glenn Lang is passing his position along. Morris and his wife Kim stood in front of the Board and all those present at the meeting (mostly principals for schools in the area) as Superintendent Bill Hopkins Jr. introduced him. Hopkins read a note from Priceville’s current principal Mark Mason who couldn’t be at the meeting. Mason said, “Thanks for always being a great teammate. Thanks for always being supportive and loyal. Most of all thanks for being a great friend. You will be greatly missed at Priceville High School.”

After the meeting, Morris said, “I am looking forward to working with the teachers and students at Falkville High School and becoming part of the Falkville community.”

The Board took care of a few items of business before approving resignations and hires within the school system and adding their remarks.

The business and finance department presented their findings on the 2014-2015 school year audit.

“The results of our test disclose no instances of non-compliance or other matters required to be reported under government standards,” reported April Perser, an examiner with public accounts, said. During the meeting, most of the Board members congratulated the finance department on their hard work.

“Congratulations to Mr. Godwin and the whole team with the audit. Audits are one of those things that gets everybody’s blood pressure up, but it’s actually a good thing to make sure we’re doing things correctly and being responsible,” said Board member Jeff McLemore. “For us, I think it helps instill confidence within the community that our funds are being handled appropriately.”
