Local veterinarians will do their part to combat rabies in Morgan County this Saturday.

Dr. Steven Osborne of Osborne Animal Clinic, Dr. Michael Penny of County Line Veterinary Services and Dr. Chuck Gill of Morgan Animal Hospital will run three routes throughout the county to offer discounted rabies vaccinations to owners and keepers of dogs and cats at least 3 months old for $12.

By Alabama law, all animals must be vaccinated against rabies annually by a qualified veterinarian. According to the Alabama Department of Public Health, the disease is preventable if proper treatment is given before symptoms occur but is fatal once symptoms are present.

Saturday’s schedule will be as follows:

  • Trinity Town Hall, Gregg’s Grocery and Priceville High School (6 a.m.)
  • Big Sam’s, McKendree Church and the old Somerville Courthouse (7 a.m.)
  • Pumpkin Center, Barkley Bridge Elementary School and Center Spring Church (8 a.m.)
  • Shady Grove Baptist Church at Neel, Falkville High School and 4-Way Stop – at the intersection of Highways 36 and 67 (9 a.m.)
  • Danville Baptist Church, Eva School and Cotaco School (10 a.m.)
  • Old Murphy’s Store – Highway 36 and Hampton Road, Danny Husky Park and Laceys Spring School (11 a.m.)
  • Oak Ridge Church, Gum Springs Church and First Christian Church at Valhermoso Springs (noon)
  • Oak Park School, Mt. Tabor Church and Union Hill School (1 p.m.)

All visits will be made regardless of weather.
