Morgan County Board of Education prepares for coming year
The Morgan County Board of Education met June 13.
The meeting began with the county school system being recognized for its $1.41 million of energy conservation over the past four years.
The board then recognized the Falkville High School boys track team for being the 2A State Champs.
Five requests for out-of-state travel were approved by the board:
- Priceville High School Future Business Leaders of America and chaperones will travel to Baltimore, Md., for the FBLA National Competition.
- Brewer High School students and chaperones will travel to Louisville, Ky., to compete in the SkillsUSA National Competition.
- Six students from West Morgan High School will travel to Atlanta to compete in the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America National Competition.
- Ten students from the Morgan County School of Culinary Arts Academy will travel to Orlando, Fla., to attend the Cook Around the World Culinary Camp in 2019.
- Priceville High School students will attend the Epcot World Showcase in 2019.
The board moved to approve contracts for various summer employees. The contracts included transportation, the production of the countywide musical and education services from The Riley Center.
The board also approved bids that included job descriptions, a Danville High School football camp, the purchase of new writing curriculum, a Danville High School volleyball camp, educator payments for summer training, an extended school year contract, career technical performance-based supplements, the suspension of policies to allow for summer pay and an amendment to the Morgan County Student Handbook concerning exams.
The board also moved to approve the retirement, resignation and new hires of various positions. At the end the meeting, Brandin Tew was introduced as assistant principal at Cotaco Junior High School.
