Aiming for success
Archery business comes to Hartselle
In May Robbin Black opened his archery store in downtown Hartselle. Prestige Archery had always been a goal for Black – one he worked toward during his many years of experience working at other outdoor stores.
Black said he enjoys being able to call his own shots at his store and being able to meet the need in Hartselle. “We felt like Hartselle needed an archery shop. There are a bunch of hunters in the area,” Black said.
Black partnered with former customer Gene Blankenship to find the location and said it was a deal he could not refuse.
Prior to the partnership, Black was considering opening his shop from his home, but he said he was glad to be in Hartselle.
“Having it here in Hartselle is definitely a better location with more people,” Black said.
Black said having Blankenship as a partner also allows him to expand what the shop offers. Prestige carries Bowtech, Mathews, Diamond and Mission. “With both of our resources together, we can just have a better shop,” Black said.
In addition to selling merchandise, Black also services bows. Black said he has been working on bows since he was in high school and has since traveled to both Mathews’ and Bowtech’s facilities. “A bow technician is kind of like a doctor; once you go to them, you don’t want to go to anyone else,” Black said.
Prestige Archery also aims to be a one-stop shop for archery. “Here at the archery shop we can restring bows, paper tune, cut arrows – basically anything with archery, we do,” Black said.
Black said he can also teach archery lessons, and during deer season he plans to host a Big Buck Contest.
Black said archery has been something he was interested in since he was a boy. “I was 7 or 8 years old when I started shooting a bow, and I have never laid one down since,” he said.
Black said he is excited to be in Hartselle and serving the local hunters in the area. “I am just glad to be in Hartselle. Hartselle is a good place to be.”
