Patriots pummel West Morgan in homecoming game

The Brewer Patriots had a huge homecoming victory last Friday over the visiting West Morgan Rebels with a 62-14 win. The Patriot defense had its best performance of the season, allowing only 49 total yards and forcing six West Morgan turnovers. Leading the way for the defense was junior safety Kris Bramlett who had two interceptions with one returned for a touchdown. He now has a total of five interceptions for the season. Offensively the Patriots finished the night with 296 total yards. Brewer was 8/13 passing for 126 yards with starter Patrick Johnson going 7/12 for 102 yards and three touchdowns. The Patriots rushed for 170 yards on 31 carries and were led by Johnathan Morgan who had 109 yards on 13 carries with two touchdowns. West Morgan’s leading contributor on offense was quarterback John Phillips who had both West Morgan touchdowns on the ground.
West Morgan scored the first points of the night on a 5-yard touchdown run by John Phillips giving the Rebels a 6-0 lead. Brewer quickly answered on its next drive, needing only 52 seconds and 4 plays, when Johnathan Morgan tied the score at 6-6 on a 21 yard run with 3:59 left in the first quarter. The Patriots next drive would take only 68 seconds and 3 plays ending with a 25-yard touchdown pass from Patrick Johnson to Logan Lemons. Brewer would tack on a two point conversion and lead at the end of the first quarter 14-6.
The second quarter was all Brewer as they would score five touchdowns and 34 points off of five West Morgan turnovers to go into halftime with a 48-6 lead. Kris Bramlett would start the second quarter scoring frenzy with a 55-yard interception return for a touchdown. A fumble by West Morgan led to another quick score on a 6-yard run by Patrick Johnson. West Morgan would fumble the ensuing kickoff which led to the third touchdown of the second quarter with a 34-yard touchdown pass from Patrick Johnson to Kris Bramlett. Two plays later, another West Morgan turnover led to a 10-yard touchdown strike from Patrick Johnson to Will Humphries. West Morgan would fumble again on their first play of the following drive leading to the final touchdown of the quarter for the Patriots on a two-yard run by Patrick Johnson.
The Patriot defense would start the third quarter by forcing another turnover when Kris Bramlett would get his second interception of the night. Three plays later Brewer’s Johnathan Morgan scored on an 18-yard touchdown run making the score 55-6, Brewer. The final score of the night for the Patriots came with 3:09 left in the third quarter when Dawson Defreeze would score on a 10-yard run making the score 62-6, Brewer. West Morgan scored late in the fourth quarter with three minutes left in the game when John Phillips got his second touchdown run of the night leading to the final score, 62-14.
Brewer improves to 4-1 on the season. They will travel to play the Ardmore Tigers this Thursday in a 5-A Region 8 match-up, with kickoff set for 7 p.m.
