Eva Frontier Days draw thousands
The Eva Frontier Days welcomed thousands of people to Downtown Eva Sept. 29. The community event was put on by the Eva Art Guild to help raise funds for the guild. The event featured live entertainment, a tractor show, pig chase, frog jumping contest and more.
Cynthia Weaver is one of the organizers of the event, and said that it went as well. According to Weaver, there were 8,000 to 10,000 people in attendance. “The weather was great and we had a great turnout,” Weaver said.
As part of the festivities, a hayride had been planned earlier in the week but had to be cancelled due to weather. Weaver said it was the first time in 29 years that it had to be cancelled, but that even so the community was still supportive. “We even had a good turnout for the hayride even though it had to be cancelled,” she said.
Each year, the funds from the events are used to host the events next year and to provide a scholarship for a Brewer High School student. “We give a $1,000 scholarship to a student pursuing an art or art affiliated field. It is really more broad than just art, it can be education or career tech,” Weaver said.
This year was the first year for the event to have entertainment all day long, and featured performances by Brandon Elder. Weaver said the lineups helped to add to the day. “We hope to be able to continue that next year,” Weaver said.
Weaver said the event is scheduled to take place again next year from Sept. 21 through Sept. 28. They hope to continue the same events next year, and to add onto the car show.
