Humbug! A Christmas Carol presented at Princess Theatre
The classic Dickens tale “A Christmas Carol” will again be brought to life in a musical version by the Bank Street Players Nov 29- Dec 1 at the Princess Theatre in Decatur. Hartselle citizens Sheree Hutchens, Allison Smith and Olivia Wunch are part of the 43-member cast.
Humbug! A Christmas Carol features 15 original songs. This is the second annual production of the show, written by local playwright and songsmith Chuck Puckett. “The script is very true to Dickens’s original narrative. There are far too many famous bits of dialogue that one would be a fool to attempt to improve,” Puckett said. “Humbug! A Christmas Carol grew out of my conviction that the story was particularly suited to a full book musical format. There are so many opportunities in the tale that can (and should) be addressed by real songs, songs that move the story along.” Award-winning actor Phil Parker is reprising his role as Ebeneezer Scrooge. “I am extremely fortunate in having the tremendously talented Phil Parker return in the role of Scrooge,” Puckett said. “Phil is well-known across North Alabama theatrical groups as an actor capable of almost any role, and he shines as Scrooge. We had several cast members returning from last year’s show, but we have many new people as well. They have all been working very hard, and their efforts will be very evident to audiences.” Performances are Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 7 p.m., and a matinee on Saturday at 2 pm. Tickets are $18 ($15 students/seniors) and are available at www.princesstheatre.org. |
