The Town of Priceville hosted its first ever Christmas tree lighting ceremony in Veterans Park Dec. 5 at 5 p.m.
Priceville Mayor Melvin Duran said he was impressed with the turnout for the event’s first year. “We had 200-250 people in attendance in our first official year, and that’s really exciting,” Duran said. “Mrs. Fox was the coordinator for it through the Park and Recreation Department, and a lot of people volunteered with her to help.”
Duran said Santa Claus was on scene and took the time to visit with every child who lined up to see him. “It was really excellent. Everything was perfect,” Duran said. “Santa Claus also let all the kids take their time and decorate cookies while they were there.
“We’re hoping to do it next year and that all the volunteers to do it again.”
Duran also added a local man and his boss spent about $500 of their own funds to build a Santa Chair for the town to use at the event.
“He doesn’t want any recognition, but it just goes to show how willing people in the community are to help with events and each other,” Duran said.
In other festive fun, the Priceville Christmas parade had to be postponed until Dec. 22 at 2 p.m. because of inclement weather.
