Tyler Mitchell Named Head Coach at Falkville

Tyler Mitchell has been named as the new head coach at Falkville High School. He will be replacing Joel Schrenk, Falkville’s all-time winningest coach, who left to become head coach at Hazel Green High School.

“First off, I want to give God all the glory for this opportunity because without him and His guidance I wouldn’t be in this situation.  My wife and I have been praying over this for months and this job opened up where we live,” said Mitchell.

Mitchell went on to say, “I have always respected the Falkville program and the community. Being named the Head Football Coach means a lot to me and my family. It’s an excellent job with great administration and excellent community support.”

Mitchell is coming to Falkville from East Limestone High School where he was the Defensive Coordinator and Strength Coach for four years under Head Coach Jeff Pugh. Prior to that, he spent one year at Cordova as Special Teams Coordinator and Secondary Coach. He started his coaching career at Lawrence County where he spent four years.

“I have been preparing to be a head coach for most of my career,” said Mitchell.  “I have a lot of mentors that have invested in me over years but most recently has been Coach Jeff Pugh.  He has supported me from day one in everything I have done.  He runs a top-notch program at East Limestone and has been doing it for years.  Coach Pugh supported me through this process and I can’t thank him enough for what he means to me and my family. “

“Tyler was a great assistant here at East Limestone,” said Pugh. “He is great with organization and defensive co-ordination duties. He has upper-level knowledge of the game and is always very prepared. He will make a fine head coach. Congratulations to Falkville on a great hire. We wish him the best and are appreciative of his service to our program at East Limestone.”

Mitchell was born and raised in Russellville, AL. While in high school he played baseball and football for the Golden Tigers and was a cornerback on the 2004 5AState Runner-up football team.

He is married to Amber Griggs Mitchell. They have two beautiful daughters, Paisley (3) and Alaina (16 months).

“Coach Schrenk did an excellent job at Falkville. My job is not to come in and change a bunch of things,” Mitchell said.

Coach Mitchell has already started building relationships with the players, coaches, and community.

“My family and I want to love on our players and coaches and be the example that God has called us to be,” said Mitchell.

Coach Mitchell wants to have a tough, physical football team. He plans on building that mentality in the weight room and in their summer program.

“These players know how to win, so my goal is to bridge the gap and be able to compete for championships on a yearly basis,” Mitchell said.
