Hartselle woman dies after mobile home fire

A Hartselle woman has died from injuries she sustained in a mobile home fire May 30.

According to a post on Facebook, Morgan County sheriff’s deputies, the Hartselle fire and police ments, Oak Ridge Volunteer Fire Department and EMTs responded to a structure fire at a mobile home on Nethery Road last Thursday about 7:45 p.m.

According to the official report, upon being alerted that Staci Wooters Collette was still inside her home, deputies quickly began knocking out windows in an attempt to locate  her. Having no luck, they proceeded to enter the home through the back door but could go no further because of the intense heat and  smoke.

When the Hartselle Fire Department arrived on scene, two firefighters entered the flaming building. A third manned a water hose, joined by the Oak Ridge Volunteer Fire Department.

Once inside, firefighters were able to locate Collette and carry her out of the blaze. CPR was initiated as she was prepped for transport to Decatur Morgan Hospital. Collette was later transferred to Birmingham due to the severity of her injuries. She succumbed to her injuries and passed away Sunday in Birmingham. She was 45.

MCSO shared a statement from Collette’s family in a post announcing her death:

“We want to send a huge ‘thank you’ to all of the first responders that covered this incident. Please know that you are appreciated more than you will ever know. Even though Staci is no longer with us here on this earth, please know that your efforts were not in vain. Because of you, the family was given time to say goodbye to our sweet Staci. That in itself was priceless to them.”
