Herbert O. Roberson

Funeral service for Herbert O. Roberson, 82, was held Dec. 23 at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. David Hale officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was in Ebenezer Cemetery (Morgan County).
Mr. Roberson passed away Dec. 21 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born June 6, 1938, in Morgan County to Roman Matthew Roberson and Ester Frances Brown Roberson. He was a driver for MCATS prior to retiring and loved visiting the Falkville Senior Center.
He was preceded in death by his wife and his parents.
Survivors include two sons, Kenny Roberson and Tony Roberson; one brother, Roy Roberson; three sisters, Freda Bentley, Louise McNutt and Jeanette Steele (Ricky); five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were family members.
Janet Stevens Goodwin
Hartselle
Funeral service for Janet Stevens Goodwin, 77, was held Dec. 26 at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Fred Wallace officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was in Hartselle City Cemetery.
Mrs. Goodwin died Dec. 21 at Summerford Nursing Home.
She was born March 3, 1943, in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, to Gordon C. Shively and Ada Lea Billeter Shively. She was a family counselor prior to her retirement. She provided spiritual counseling to many people and was a mother figure to everyone. She had a welcoming heart to each individual and made them feel special. She was a true disciple of Christ.
Preceding her in death were two husbands, Charles W. Stevens and John W. Goodwin, and her parents.
Survivors include two sons, Charles Christopher “Chris” Stevens and Gordon Everett Stevens (Agna Yamileth Barbera G); one daughter, Jenifer Stevens Smith (Richard); two sisters, Linda Cahill and Susan “Shelli” Champion; and two grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Gordon Stevens, Richard Smith, Alvin Morgan, Perry Wiley, TJ Wiley and Scott Champion.
Jack Betterton
Hartselle
Andrew Jack Betterton died Dec. 22 at Decatur Morgan Hospital.
Jack, a child of God, was born April 14, 1929, to Hubert M. Betterton Sr. and Lola Mae English Betterton in Morgan County.
Family graveside arrangements by Peck Funeral Home were held at 3 p.m. Dec. 27 at Hartselle City Cemetery, officiated by the Rev. Mike Pope and the Rev. Harold Thompson. Pallbearers included Conrad Bell, David Glasscock, Danny Grissom, James Hastings, George McCaghren and Paul Wallace.
He was a graduate of Morgan County High School in Hartselle and a member of Hartselle First United Methodist Church. As a veteran, he served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict with the 40th Tank Battalion, 4th Infantry Division, while stationed in Mannheim, Germany. He retired after 35 years with Wolverine Tube in Decatur.
He married the love of his life, Freida Vest Betterton, enjoying over 69 years together.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Hubert M. Betterton Jr.
Survivors include his wife and children, Andrew (Andy) Betterton (Sandra), Florence, William H. (Billy) Betterton (Daphne), Ocean Springs, Miss., and Jan G. Funeral service for Megan Ross, 31, was held Dec. 28 at 7 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor David Carroll officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.
Miss Ross passed away Dec. 21. She was born May 16, 1989, in Wayne County, Michigan, to Mark Steven Ross and Rochelle Sharber. She was employed as a manager for Dollar General prior to her passing. She loved her family, and she will be missed.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Survivors include her mother, Rochelle Sharber; two sons, Julian Jace Peterson and Carter Dewayne Peterson; one brother, Justin Garcia; two sisters, Jessica Ross Gibson (Colton) and Sabrina Hudgins, and one half-sister, Samantha Johnson; her grandmother, Brenda Tremblay (Roger); several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; and boyfriend Manquavis Murrell.
Judy Carol Williams
Decatur
Funeral service for Judy Carol Williams, 68, was held Dec. 26 at 6 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Peck Funeral Home directing.
Ms. Williams died Dec. 21 at Decatur Morgan Hospital. She was born Jan. 31, 1952, in Cullman County to Isaac E. Rainey and Willodean Stover Rainey. She was employed at Decatur West Hospital in the geriatric unit as an LPN prior to her retirement. She loved her children and grandchildren dearly and was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include two sons, Brandon Williams and Troy Williams (Jamie); one sister, Teresa Smith; two nephews, Ryan O’Connor and Chandler Smith; six grandchildren, Skyluer Williams Vess (Justin), Masie Williams, Georgia Williams, Brickston Williams, Macy Taylor and Gracie Russell; and two great-grandchildren, Rehgan Williams and Jaxton Miller.
Glenda Dale Roy Thompson
Decatur
Funeral service for Glenda Dale Roy Thompson, 73, was held Dec. 27 at 1:30 p.m. at Hartselle Church of Christ with Phillip Hines officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was in Loosier Church of Christ Cemetery.
Mrs. Thompson died Dec. 21 at her residence. She was born Sept. 22, 1947, in Lawrence County to Ottis Euel Roy and Clara Ruth Madry Roy. She was the accounts payable clerk for the Alabama Farmers Cooperative for 33 years prior to her retirement. She was a member of the Hartselle Church of Christ.
She loved to travel with her family and had several hobbies, such as reading, going to the movies and spending time with her family playing cards. She rarely missed an event for her grandchildren and loved to spoil them rotten. She was a generous soul and was one of the Alabama Crimson Tide’s biggest fans.
As the wife of a minister for many years, she was a selfless servant, caring for others more than herself.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Dwight Thompson; a brother, Bob Roy; a sister, Brenda Roy Tapscott; and her parents.
Survivors include one son, George Dwight Thompson Jr. (Jennifer), Smithville, Miss.; two daughters, Dawn Thompson Runager (Michael), Decatur, and Greta Thompson Lamb (Craig), Harvest; two brothers, Marvin Roy, Locust Fork, and Joe Roy, Trinity; and five grandchildren, Mackenzie and Garrett Runager and Keaton, Conner and Emma Claire Lamb.
Pallbearers were Garrett Runager, Michael Runager, Stacy Tapscott, Jason Tapscott, Randall Roy, Keith Thompson, Kevin Thompson and David Thompson. Honorary pallbearers were Keaton and Conner Lamb and Derrick and Brandon Roy.
Janice Lang Grant

Funeral service for Janice Lang Grant, 70, was held Dec. 24 at 1 p.m. at Gum Springs Baptist Church with Bro. Anthony Patterson officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was in Gum Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Grant died Dec. 22 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born March 13, 1950, in Morgan County to James Earl Lang Jr. and Ruth Davis Lang.
Mrs. Grant retired from Eva Bank, where she worked in operations.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Mrs. Grant was a faithful member of Gum Springs Baptist Church and was a loving, giving person. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also loved Alabama football.
Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Norman Grant; son Kevin Grant (Shelia); daughter Paula Glenn (Tony); two brothers, Kenny Lang (Lavonda) and Dwight Lang (Lisa); three sisters, Barbara Maze, Judy Sivley (Larry) and Denise Day (Gaylon); two grandchildren, Brittany Russell (Marcus) and Anthony Groover; and two great-grandchildren, Charlie Russell and Henry Russell. Pallbearers were Marcus Russell, Gaylon Day, Caleb Weems, Mike Winton, Eddie Baker and Jay Sivley.
Joey Lee Barnett
Somerville
Graveside service for Joey Lee Barnett, 45, of Somerville was held Dec. 27 at 2 p.m. at the Historic Somerville Cemetery with Pastor Josh Sparkman officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.
Joey, who was born Aug. 11, 1975, in Decatur to Rayburn Barnett and Sandra Reeves Barnett, died Dec. 22 at Decatur Morgan Hospital. He attended No Fences Cowboy Church and loved horses and trail riding with his friends, and he was a man who never met a stranger.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
He is survived by his wife, Sonia Eubanks Barnett; his father, Rayburn Barnett; and two brothers, Eddie Barnett (Kim) and Troy Barnett (Carrie).
Family and friends served as pallbearers.
Roger Morris Burcham
Danville
Roger Morris Burcham, 84, of Danville, passed away Dec. 23.
He was the husband of Dorothy “Dot” Kimbrough Burcham, and they were married for 60 years. He was a child of God and a member of Danville Baptist Church.
He proudly served in the U.S. Navy and retired from the Alabama Army National Guard of 20 years. He also retired from Nestle Pet Foods as a multi-craft maintenance technician.
He was a lifelong thinker, tinkerer and student of learning. He enjoyed his time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Mr. Burcham is survived by his wife, Dot; his children, Howard Burcham (Judy) and Chris Burcham; grandchildren Tyler Burcham (Heather), Bailey Burcham, Regan Burcham Romine (Timothy) and Mallory Burcham; and great-grandchild Anna Burcham.
Mr. Burcham was born Sept. 13, 1936, in Bowling Green, Ky. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walston Burcham and Cassandra Penrod Burcham; brother, David Burcham; half-sister, Kathryn Drake; and daughter-in-law, Michelle Burcham.
A funeral service was held Dec. 26 at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with Bro. Joe Bailey and Bro. Jack Bailey. Burial was at Midway Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Matt Burcham, Jon Burcham, Todd Burcham, Timothy Romine, Gary Taylor and Darrell Jones.

Sandra Kay Barnett

The family of Sandra Kay Barnett, 68, of Somerville had a private family graveside service at the Historic Somerville Cemetery Dec. 28, with Brother Ricky Harvel officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.
Mrs. Barnett, who was born July 28, 1952, in Morgan County to Roy Reeves and Mattie Callahan Reeves, died Dec. 14 at her home. She was a homemaker, a devoted Christian lady and a member of Barnett’s Chapel Church. She loved traveling, camping and going to the Great Smoky Mountains.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Joey Lee Barnett; a sister, Debra Reeves Shadden; and a brother, Jerry Reeves.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Raybon Barnett; two sons, Eddie Barnett (Kim) and Troy Barnett (Carrie); a daughter-in-law, Sonia Barnett; a brother, James Reeves (Sandra); two sisters, Ann Shadden (Jimmy) and Gail Mason (Douglas); three grandchildren, Dawn Landry (Chris), Sadie Campbell (Alex) and Gracie Barnett; and two great-grandchildren, Allie Leanne Campbell and Layne Alexander Campbell.
Billy E. McCutcheon

Billy E. McCutcheon passed away Dec. 28 in Evergreen.
He was born May 1, 1937, to John Elliotte McCutcheon and Ruth Luker McCutcheon. He was born and raised in Hartselle and attended Morgan County High School. He also was the business owner of McCutcheon Ditching Service and was considered the No. 1 driver for Poole Trucking and Evergreen Transportation for many years.
He was survived by his children, Phyllis J.K. Owens, Vonnie V. Owens and Christopher Billy McCutcheon; two grandchildren, Judge David Meriweather and Julia DaVonna Davis; two great-grandchildren, Sarena and Kristen Meriweather; one brother, Phil McCutcheon (Linda); and one stepson, Stanley Smelley (Judy).
He was preceded in death by two wives, Glenda Sue Grantland Owens McCutcheon and Eva Smelley McCutcheon, siblings Joe and Tommy McCutcheon and Carolyn Fulmer; a granddaughter, Kristie K. Davis; and in-laws George O. Grantland and Valerie Claudine Grantland Stanley.
Services will be held at Cope-Keahe Funeral Home in Evergreen and at Peck Funeral Home in Hartselle. Service times and dates will be announced when arrangements are complete. Burial will be in Hartselle Memory Gardens.
Jerre Wayne Lett
Hartselle
Funeral service for Jerre Wayne Lett, 80, of Hartselle was held Dec. 29 at 1 p.m. at East Highland Baptist Church with Brother Wally Blackmon officiating. Burial with Navy honors was at Hartselle Memory Gardens Cemetery with Peck Funeral Home directing.
Mr. Lett passed Dec. 25 at his home. His surviving family includes son Keith Lett and his wife Sonya Lett; daughter Kelly Lett Woodard and husband James Scott Woodard Sr.; and daughter Kristie Lett Langley and husband Edward Langley. His grandchildren include Bradley Lett and wife Stephanie Lett, Jennifer Lett, Scott Woodard Jr. and wife Marcela Woodard, Bryant Woodard, Matthew Helmuth, Brooke Causey and husband Matthew Causey, Blake Langley and Samuel Langley. His great-grandchildren include Noah, Madison, Ava, Catey, Connor, Kay-Leigh, Karoline, Nolan, Aneila, Tucker, Wrenley, Storm, Gabi, Josselyn, Garner, Cooper; and a special friend, Faye Towe.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Judy Patterson Lett.
Jerre was born of the union between Jesse Collier Lett and Annie Mae Lett May 26 in DeArmanville. A graduate of White Plains High School, Jerre was a noted baseball and basketball star and math whiz.
Following high school he enlisted in the United States Navy, serving in the submarine corps, and later served in the United States Navy Reserves.
After his honorable discharge, he went on to earn his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at the University of Alabama at Huntsville. An engineer, Jerre worked at 3M (12 years) and GE (26 years) and taught classes at Calhoun Community College and Athens State University.
Jerre was a dedicated disciple of Christ and used his time and talent to lead others in worship. As a fixture of East Highland Southern Baptist Church, he led Sunday School and, when possible, helped his church in any way he could.
