Hartselle junior commits to Samford women’s basketball
Hartselle’s Masyn Marchbanks has made her choice.
The junior guard committed to Samford University basketball and Coach Carley Kuhns Saturday afternoon in a commitment ceremony at the Hartselle Civic Center.
“It was an undeniable direction God was leading me in,” said Marchbanks. “I’ve always wanted to be coached by a woman, and the way Coach Carley Kuhns leads her team is something I knew I wanted to be part of.”
Marchbanks chose the Lady Bulldogs over offers from at least 18 other schools, including North Carolina, South Alabama, Air Force, UAB, Princeton, Columbia and UT-Chattanooga.
Marchbanks has played varsity basketball for the Lady Tigers since the eighth grade. She is averaging 18.5 points per game this season.
She scored a career-high 33 points in Hartselle’s win over Muscle Shoals this past week.
She has helped the Lady Tigers to a 15-2 overall record and 4-0 in area play.
Marchbanks will join two other players from Morgan County at Samford when she arrives on campus: Kathleen Wheeler, of Priceville, is a redshirt freshman, and Katie Jones, of Decatur Heritage, is a freshman.
“With Samford being such a prestigious university,” Marchbanks said, “I knew I’d get the academic and athletic experience I’ve dreamed of since I was a little girl.”
