Morgan Health Department halts first doses of COVID vaccine “for time being”

Special to the Enquirer

Only second doses of the COVID-19 vaccine will be administered through the Morgan County Health Department “for the time being,” according to a department press release Feb. 3.

“If you received your first dose at the Morgan County Health Department, please know that your second dose is here and will be ready when you return,” said Judy Smith, Alabama Department of Public Health administrator for the Northern District.

Decatur–Morgan Hospital recently received a new shipment of the vaccine and is scheduling appointments, according to the MCHD. Eligible residents are encouraged to register online. The hospital will continue administering second doses of the vaccine as well.

Those eligible for a vaccine can visit the state’s website to find locations for first-dose vaccinations.

“We’re using the supply we have been allocated to the very best of our abilities and are relentlessly advocating for more doses in our community,” Smith added.

No timetable has been provided for additional vaccine shipments for the Morgan County Health Department.

Those currently eligible for vaccine in Alabama are healthcare providers, nursing home residents, law enforcement officers, firefighters, some other critical workers and people age 65 and older.
