HPD raises funds for Freeman family after loss

Officer Brad Freeman with the Hartselle Police Department recently lost his wife Amanda to cancer. He must now take care of their two sons, Braydon and Tucker. To help him during this difficult time, Sgt. Michael Hudson and Lt. Linda Fox from the police department have started a GoFundMe for the Freeman family. 
“We want to help him as much as we can. Nothing can heal the loss he and the kids are suffering with right now but we want to ease any financial worries that Brad may have. Anyone that knows Amanda knows how funny and caring she was. She would have given anything to have stayed with us,” Lt. Linda Fox wrote on the GoFundMe page. “She was courageous in that battle and she was a rock for our brother Brad.”
As of press time, more than a hundred people had donated, raising more than $10,083 of the $15,000 goal to help the Freeman family on the road ahead.

According to her obituary, which can be read in its entirety on page A-2, Amanda Freeman died Feb. 10 at UAB Hospital in Birmingham. She was born Dec. 10, 1977, in Morgan County to Charles Lee Akers and Brenda Ann Hornbuckle Akers. She was a graduate of the 1996 class of Hartselle High School.  

“She enjoyed sports, especially basketball, and loved her pets,” the obituary notes. “She was a very strong person, who stayed strong throughout her sickness. She was the bravest mother and friend and was the ‘rock’ of her families’ lives.”
In addition to her husband and sons, she leaves behind her mother Brenda, her brother Jason and two nieces, Monica and Maggie.
