HU replacing 60-year-old sewer pipes on Patillo Street today
Hartselle Utilities began infrastructure repairs along portions of Patillo Street today that will include replacing sewer lines, mains and manholes that are decades old.
“This has been a planned project in discussion for the past several years,” said HU general manager Bob Sittason. “Basically, the project will replace sewer infrastructure and manholes and redo all the services that serve the houses along Patillo Street. Some of it has failed in areas.”
Sittason said the work will be done in phases, and those who live on Patillo Street will maintain access. Detour signs are posted to reroute traffic. The areas affected are from Williams Street to Frost Street, near the Mynatt Street intersection.
“We always try to get in front of road work so we’re not having to cut fresh pavement,” Sittason said. “We try to partner with the City where we can so we spend our money wisely.
“With Patillo Street being a main thoroughfare in Hartselle,” he added, “we thought this would be a good opportunity to do the needed repairs.”
Sittason said Armor Construction in Decatur will be heading up the project.
