Peebles named 6A Player of the Year

The accolades keep coming for Hartselle’s Brody Peebles. He was named the 6A Player of the Year by the Alabama Sports Writers Association last weekend.

“It’s an honor!” said Peebles. “ I couldn’t have done it without the coaches, my teammates, and the culture we have built. God has been so good to me, and accomplishing something like this is just awesome!”

Peebles is the second player from Hartselle to be named Player of the Year. He joins Jay Knowlton, who won the 5A honor in 1994 after leading the Tigers to the state championship.

Peebles is a three-time All-State selection who finished his four-year career with 3,049 points. He finished his senior season by averaging 33.2 points per game in leading the Tigers to a 25-4 record and a third straight area championship under coach Faron Key’s leadership.

“Perfect punctuation to his career.  Very deserving and hard-earned,” said coach Key. “As deep as 6A is with talented teams and players, for him to be able to be named the 6A player of the year is the highest of honors.  Brody impacts everyone he’s around in a positive way and left his fingerprints all over our program!”

Peebles will continue his career at Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA. He will play for coach Ritchie McKay, who led the Flames back to the NCAA tournament this year following their Atlantic Sun Conference tournament championship.

Area 14 swept the 6A honors with Muscle Shoals’ Sara Puckett, a University of Tennessee signee, selected as the girls player of the year.

Joining Peebles as Player of the Year selections are Riley Leonard of Fairhope (7A), Kaleb Brown of Lee-Huntsville (5A), Antonio Kite of Anniston (4A), Cole Millican of Plainview (3A), J.D. Davison of Calhoun (2A), and DeWaun Stubbs of Autaugaville (1A).
